From Gravel To Green
From global warming to congested city streets, environmental sustainability is a critical issue that effects all of us. That's why - from day one - Quarry Falls has been designed as a pedestrian friendly, compact community that will help reduce commuter traffic by placing jobs close to homes in Mission Valley.
As we have worked with the community over the past few years, we have recognized the importance of sustainable design features and have worked to incorporate these into our concept.
Recently, we registered Quarry Falls with the U.S Green Building Council's "Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design" program. Quarry Falls is designated as a "LEED-ND pilot project". This program serves as a guide for developing compact, walkable, well-connected communities with a holistic approach to sustainability.
In addition, upon approval of Quarry Falls, nearby land - currently zoned for a high-rise office building that would generate thousands of daily traffic trips - will be donated to the San Diego River Park Foundation. The River Park Foundation's mission is to enhance and encourage environmental stewardship of the San Diego River by providing ecological education programs.
At its core, Quarry Falls is about creating a space where sustainable living is valued. From multi-modal transportation alternatives and pedestrian friendly walkable spaces, to finger parks and community gardens to encourage the production of on-site food, Quarry Falls serves as a model for sustainable design.
From gravel to green. That's our vision.
